Leg lock details that
change your game.
Daniel Holý is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, IBJJF European Championship medalist, leg lock specialist, and founder of Ragnar Academy.
Promoted to black belt by Fernando Araujo at Jungle BJJ Praha. Grappling coach for Karlos Vémola, Czech MMA champion and Oktagon headliner.
One of the most followed BJJ athletes in Europe with over 500K followers. Built everything from scratch — one mat session, one video, one honest breakdown at a time.
Inside Ragnar Academy: the same approach. No fluff. Just the leg lock details that actually change your game.
Results
IBJJF European No-Gi — Silver (black belt)
Silver at the IBJJF European No-Gi Championship, Master 2 / Super-Heavy. Tapped in the final to an ankle lock that torqued the knee — which is exactly why I teach both attacking and defending the legs.
IBJJF Europe — 3× Silver (brown belt)
Two silvers at the IBJJF European No-Gi Championship (Rome 2022 and 2023) and a gi silver at the IBJJF Master International Europe 2023. Master 2 / Super-Heavy.
IBJJF European No-Gi — Bronze (open class)
Bronze in the open-weight division at the IBJJF European No-Gi Championship, brown belt, Master 2.
ADCC European Trials — Competitor
Represented Czech Republic at the most prestigious submission grappling qualifier in Europe.
Grappling Coach — Karlos Vémola
Grappling preparation for one of the biggest stars in Czech MMA and Oktagon promotion.
Black Belt — Jungle BJJ Praha
Promoted by Fernando Araujo Nascimento (5th degree black belt). One of Jungle BJJ's five black belts.
Leg Lock System
Heel Hook
Inside and outside heel hooks from saddle, 50/50 and outside ashi garami. The highest-percentage finish in modern no-gi grappling.
Toe Hold
IBJJF-legal at brown belt and above. Devastating as a secondary attack when combined with knee bar threats from ashi garami.
Knee Bar
Entries from top, bottom, and transitions. One of the most underrated submissions in modern grappling.
Saddle / Honeyhole
The control position that unlocks the entire leg lock game. Master this position first — everything else flows from here.
50/50 Guard
Offensive 50/50 with heel hook and ankle lock attacks. Not a stalling position — a finishing position.
Outside Ashi
The entry point to the entire leg lock system. Single leg X to outside ashi garami — from guard pull to heel hook finish.
FAQ
Ragnar Academy is my online BJJ instruction — no-gi grappling and leg locks. The paid videos run as a Patreon membership; this site is the hub: glossary, blog, interview and membership info. It's not a random pile of clips — every video is a whole technique: entry, control, finish and the most common mistakes.
Because random content won't teach you a system. YouTube gives you techniques. Here you get context — why this position leads to this submission, how to enter it from three different situations and what to do when things go wrong. The Instagram reels are a taste; the membership is the whole technique, the way I teach it at seminars.

Depends how long you've been training. If you've been on the mats at least 6 months and know the basic positions (guard, side control, mount), the content will make sense right away. Complete newcomers should start with classes at a gym — without live sparring, online technique content has no real effect.
Two hours a week minimum: one for the video (watch + notes), one for drilling at training. The more you apply it live, the faster it sticks. It's not about collecting videos — it's about what you take home from training.
Part of the content (solo drilling, movement patterns, breakdowns) works without a partner. But honestly — grappling without live sparring is like learning to swim on dry land. If you don't have a gym, use the videos as a benchmark for choosing one.
The whole existing library the moment you join — I'm planning 8–10 full-length instructionals (the whole technique, not a reel) — plus new videos on an ongoing basis for as long as you're a member. I'll confirm the exact day-one count and the pace of new videos at launch — I don't promise anything I can't keep.
$9.90 a month — one tier, monthly billing through Patreon, no hidden fees. Patreon shows you the amount in your currency before you confirm. Newsletter subscribers hear the opening date first.
Primarily intermediate to advanced grapplers — blue belts and up who already understand the basic positions. The leg lock system needs some fundamentals. If you've trained regularly for at least 6 months, you'll benefit right away.
The videos are recorded in Czech. Subtitles are in the works — I'll announce which languages are available at launch. BJJ technique names are in English anyway.
The Patreon membership opens in autumn 2026. I'll announce the exact date in the newsletter and on Instagram — better later and complete than early and half-empty.
Yes. The Patreon membership renews monthly and you can cancel anytime directly on Patreon, no fees. Access stays until the end of the paid period.
Payments are processed by Patreon. I'll list the price in USD; what Patreon charges in your currency is shown before you confirm.
